The Conventional Practice...

Surveys of the near surface, have until recently, relied upon conventional hand-held instruments that were generally slow and cumbersome to use. Data, acquired at a walking pace, tended to focus on small subsets of a project, and without the benefit of GPS locating, required geophysicists to set up and establish a grid reference. Consequently, such surveys were performed on limited scales, producing small sample sizes and low data densities, often resulting in ambiguous outcomes. While sometimes proving useful, most decision maker, when considering the payoff, elected to rely almost entirely on more tried-and-true direct sampling methods such as geotechnical drilling to gain knowledge of ground conditions.

Breaking Ground...

Geophysical instruments are slowly being upgraded to take advantage of technological advancements, building on the capability to integrate GPS, speeding up data acquisition rates, and making improvements in analytical software. Over the past decade, Argus has overcome economic and technological barriers in an effort to enlarge the scale of investigation possible. Total-Area-Coverage (TAC) and Wide Area Assessments (WAAs) can now be achieved. This more active and comprehensive approach provides data to evaluate what lies beneath your project. Engineering and Environmental Professionals will find this due-diligence provides greater assurance that subsurface conditions have been adequately characterized, and that buried objects/infrastructure and hazardous materials are identified and addressed prior to construction.
